Maya Jenkins, also known as simply ‘Maya J’ in the music world, is the epitome of youthful sass, talent, class, and optimistic mantras such as “Stay Sparkly!”. The upbeat actress, singer, and songwriter born in Los Angeles, California, is the one who coined the expression. After beginning as an actress in 2014, where Maya was cast in HBO’s short film, Muted alongside actors Chandra Wilson and Malcom Jamal Warner, she has since been non-stop fire in her glittery world of entertainment. She has since been seen in multiple films and shows, most notably on comedy segments with
AwesomenessTV, and on Tru Tv’s sketch comedy show, You Can Do Better as a guest. Currently, Maya is preparing for a lead role in an untitled TV series pilot, and is continuously working on new music.
In 2016, after a long wave of writing lyrics and musical compositions, she finally recorded and released her first single, Symptoms of You, on December 9th. The song was written in its entirety by Maya J herself. The piano track, as well as vocals, were recorded at Interscope Records recording studios in Santa Monica, CA.
Her sophomore single – which is also the first single off of her next musical compilation – was another original composition, entitled “Come Find Me”, and was released everywhere in late 2017. Maya has written and recorded a song for the Freeform network (formerly ABC Family), entitled “Tell Me”. The network released that song exclusively via iTunes in 2018, and it is currently available for
download. Freeform also has recently featured Maya J after “Tell Me” was used on season 2 of the hit television series “Famous in Love”.
After giving her first acoustic performance of her popular lead single “Come Find Me” in-studio at Radio Disney, the Radio Disney station has played Come Find Me on air, along with multiple other popular radio stations around the US. The official music video for the record premiered on VEVO worldwide in December 2017, and has since received on-air recognition through many venues throughout the following year.
Maya J released her next single, “Like You”, which became available everywhere in fall 2018. This marks yet another self-written original creation by the young songwriter, which she also directed artistically and co-produced. The music video for the single “Like You” premiered on the Maya J official VEVO channel in early 2019. The new record will also be included on her upcoming debut album, “Symptoms of Life”.
